crowned <strong>with</strong> tiara and in Persian dress, <strong>with</strong> quiver and sword behind his left<br />

shoulder, extending his right hand, holding a bipennis and crown in his left, and<br />

standing upon the back <strong>of</strong> a horned lion. Electrotype.<br />

Note.—This reverse proves the Oriental origin <strong>of</strong> the Tarsian deity represented on so many <strong>of</strong> its<br />

<strong>coins</strong>, and may justify us in identifying it <strong>with</strong> Mithras, who is represented in the same attitude on<br />

some <strong>of</strong> the Assyx-ian or Babylonian cylinders.<br />
