Xi'ote.—As coiiiB <strong>of</strong> Oinoe, the other Icarian city, are extant, it would seem that the present was<br />

struck at Dracanum, in the name <strong>of</strong> the people <strong>of</strong> Icaria, who appear to have distinguibhed them-<br />

selves from the IKAPIEIS <strong>of</strong> Attica, by writing themselves EKKAPPEIEIS. The form ApaKavov<br />

for ApETTflvov, already shows a peculiarity <strong>of</strong> dialect in the island. The figure <strong>of</strong> Diana, on the reverse,<br />

may represent perhaps her statue in the Tauropolium, or temple <strong>of</strong> Artemis Tauropolus, mentioned<br />

by Strabo (p. 639).<br />

IMBRUS.<br />

Note.—This island preserves its ancient name unaltered, like the islands <strong>of</strong> the ^gseau in<br />

general,<br />

although the names <strong>of</strong> many, and <strong>of</strong> Imbrus among them, have been disfigured by the Italians.<br />
