From time to time various additi<strong>on</strong>s and alterati<strong>on</strong>s have been made<br />

to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> meeting-house, which assumed its present handsome appearance in<br />

1883, during <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> ministry <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Mr. Walters, when <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> building was leng<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>ned<br />

and o<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r parts <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> interior entirely renovated. At <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> same time also<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> extensive school buildings were enlarged.<br />

The stained glass window <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> rare beauty, over <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> communi<strong>on</strong> table,<br />

represents "Jesus, as Teacher, Friend, and Risen Lord," and was placed<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>re in 1890 by Miss Stooke, in memory <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> her niece, Annie Stooke, a<br />

devoted worker in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> c<strong>on</strong>gregati<strong>on</strong>, who died <strong>on</strong> 26 December, 1885.<br />

O<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r coloured windows have since been added to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> memory <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> William<br />

Talbot, <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Whitville, who died 2 July, 1887 ; <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Mrs. Notcutt (nc2 Ida<br />

Talbot), <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Ipswich ; and <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Mrs. William Talbot, by her s<strong>on</strong>, Laurence<br />

Talbot, <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Stratford-<strong>on</strong>-Av<strong>on</strong>. The brass eagle lectern is a memorial to<br />

Mrs. Talbot, <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Oakland, who was for 60 years a member <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> society.<br />

Tablets, in marble or brass, commemorate Idant Carpenter, LLD. (d. 1840)~<br />

Richard Fry (d. 1842), Charles Talbot (d. 1844), George Talbot (d. 1868),<br />

Henry Talbot (d. 1573), and Caroline, his wife (d. 1889), George Willey<br />

There are many valuable relics and objects <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> interest in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> vestry,<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> chief <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m being <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> unique Baxter pulpit and sounding board. It<br />

originally stood in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Kidderminster Parish Church, where Richard Baxter<br />

was vicar from 1640 to 1660. About <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> year 1785, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> "rubbish " was<br />

being removed from <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Church, and am<strong>on</strong>gst it was this pulpit ! Nicholas<br />

Pearsall was not <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> man to let slip an opportunity <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> acquiring such a<br />

treasure as this pulpit, so he bought it for iE;5 ! ! and thoughtfully gave it<br />

into <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> keeping <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> trustees <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> New Meeting. They placed it in<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> vestry, and during <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> alterati<strong>on</strong>s <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> 1883 <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> present recess in'which<br />

it stands was built for it. The late Sir James Allans<strong>on</strong> Pict<strong>on</strong>, F.S.A.,<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Liverpool, told <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> author that this pulpit was <strong>on</strong>e <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> finest speci-<br />

mens <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Jacobean carving he had ever seen. The panels are inscribed :-<br />

Mrs. I Alice I Dawks, I Widow, I gave I this I pulpit.<br />

Above <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>se are <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> words :-<br />

Praise <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Lord.<br />

The fine sounding board is attached to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> pulpit by a carved panel.<br />

bearing date :-<br />

Anno.<br />

1621.<br />

Attached also to this panel, and right above <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> back <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> preacher's<br />

head, is a wooden cushi<strong>on</strong>, bearing a movable crown elaborately carved<br />

and coloured.<br />

(c) An engraving <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Baxter, by J. Spilsbury, August I, 1763, "from an<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>y passed to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> New Meeting trustees.<br />

The year 1897-that <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Diam<strong>on</strong>d Jubilee <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Queen Victoria-was<br />
