12 November, 1860, at a meeting held in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> lecture room <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Old<br />

Meeting, Birmingham ; its object being<br />

to give encouragement to existing agencies-particularly to preaching, by<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> publicati<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> books and tracts, by <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> delivery <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> lectures, and by<br />

opening fresh places for religious instructi<strong>on</strong> and worship.<br />

During its short life this associati<strong>on</strong> did much work well. On 18<br />

October, 1863, it appointed as its regular ~nissioilary agent, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Rev.<br />

Charles Frederick Biss ; it carefully fostered <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> growth <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Spoil Lane<br />

movement, which ultimately became <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> c<strong>on</strong>gregati<strong>on</strong> now worshipping in<br />

Lodge Road Church, West Bromwich ; it c<strong>on</strong>ducted regular services in<br />

Redditch, and in Villa Street Chapel, Birnlingham ; whilst ano<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r valuable<br />

feature <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> its active life was <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>ological class, which met at stated<br />

periods, 1861-1863, under <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> tutorship <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Rev. Charles Clarke, its<br />
