PEARSALL'S SCHOOL.<br />

In an indenture <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> bargain and sale, dated 15 June, 1795, between<br />

Nicholas Pearsall, <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>on</strong>e part, and Mat<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>w Jefferys and eight o<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>rs,<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> sec<strong>on</strong>d part, Pearsall recites how that being desirous <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> promoting<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> welfare <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> his fellow creatures, and persuaded that <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>ir welfare, both<br />

in this world and ano<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r, depended, under Almighty God, <strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>ir being<br />

taught to practise virtue and abstain from vice, he had resolved to estab-<br />

lish a school to teach youth this important truth in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> first place, and<br />

in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> sec<strong>on</strong>d place, so much <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> arts and sciences as might enable<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m to fill up with advantage <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>ir respective stati<strong>on</strong>s in life. To establish<br />

such a school at Kidderminster for boys, he c<strong>on</strong>veyed to Mat<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>w Jefferys<br />

and <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> eight o<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>rs certain two houses situated near <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>-protestant dis-<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> " The Adam and Eve," who were to hold <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> same <strong>on</strong> trust, to permit<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> two houses to be used as a school for <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> educati<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> boys, subject<br />

to such rules as he, by writing, should appoint.<br />

On 30 September, 1795, Pearsall, in order to make some provisi<strong>on</strong><br />

for <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> master and tutor, c<strong>on</strong>veyed to Mat<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>w Jefferys and o<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>rs a house<br />

By his will, dated 24 June, 1797, and proved at Canterbury, 20 October,<br />

1798, Pearsall made fur<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r provisi<strong>on</strong> for <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> master, for repairs, and for<br />
