THE WARWICKSHIRE AND ADJOINING COUNTIES UNITARIAN TRACT SOCIETY
had existed from <strong>the</strong> beginning <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> 19th century. It was established in
Birmingham on 6 June, 1806, for
<strong>the</strong> diffusioll <strong>of</strong> religious linowledge and <strong>the</strong> practice <strong>of</strong> virtue by <strong>the</strong>
distribution <strong>of</strong> books.
In its formation Dr. Toulmin-its first secretary-had a principal share,
and, through its earliest stages, gave to it much <strong>of</strong> his time and thought.
Its annual proceedings held in June, July or August, comprised a service
and sermon (sometimes two, once three), a business meeting, and a dinner
with speeches. The following list <strong>of</strong> its meeting places, preachers, texts,
and chairmen is <strong>of</strong> much interest :-
