On May 3, 2006, Wragg observed the scar from a 100 m length of reef that had broken away
and slipped down the reef slope out of sight (Kerr and Wragg 2006). This may have been
related to the 6.5 Richter scale earthquake in the Tonga Trench that morning. The subsidence
appeared to have occurred just hours prior to the survey dive.
ABARIRINGA (CANTON, KANTON)
Jenks and Crawford (1970) modified a two dimensional hydrographic map of Abariringa
(Canton) into a three dimensional map using 3-D mapping techniques. This is presented in
Figure III-1.28 below.
