'ffj designs. One <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se little carv<strong>in</strong>gs<br />

with which Frank was fasc<strong>in</strong>ated was a<br />

I'epresentation <strong>of</strong> a man mount<strong>in</strong>g a<br />

horse with <strong>the</strong> assistance <strong>of</strong> a groom,<br />

who was hold<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> animal. <strong>The</strong> piece<br />

was less than <strong>two</strong> <strong>in</strong>ches <strong>in</strong> length, and<br />

yet <strong>the</strong> carver had managed to put <strong>in</strong><br />

this contracted space <strong>the</strong> figures <strong>of</strong> <strong>two</strong><br />

men and a horse, with <strong>the</strong> dress <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

men and <strong>the</strong> trapp<strong>in</strong>gs <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> horse as<br />

carefully shown as <strong>in</strong> a pa<strong>in</strong>t<strong>in</strong>g. <strong>The</strong>re
