swarms with philanthropists, there are
societies for the prevention of cruelty
to animals, and very much is done to
alleviate the miseries of the poor; but
for the rich, who are even more to be
pitied, nothing is done. Instead of
prizes for essays on the culture of the
silk-worm, stall-feeding and the philosophy
of Kant, our learned societies should
announce a prize of considerable value
for the solution of the problem — How
to get a camel through the eye of a
needle ? Until this great camel question
is settled and the rich obtain some
prospect of entering the kingdom of
heaven, no effectual remedy for the poor
