Priority 13: To attain the national Sentinel Stroke Targets<br />

<strong>The</strong> Acute Stroke Unit at the <strong>Great</strong> <strong>Western</strong> <strong>Hospital</strong> has consistently delivered quality care for stroke<br />

patients over the last year. <strong>The</strong> quarterly target for 80% of patients to spend at least 90% of their<br />

length of stay in hospital on an Acute Stroke Unit was first achieved in the last quarter of 2010-2011,<br />

<strong>and</strong> has been achieved for all quarters of 2011-2012.<br />

CHART – 90% Length of Stay on an Acute Stroke Unit at <strong>Great</strong> <strong>Western</strong> <strong>Hospital</strong><br />

Patients treated on the Acute Stroke Unit received dedicated treatment <strong>and</strong> rehabilitation from a<br />

multidisciplinary team with specialist stroke skills, patients are consistently:<br />

• assessed within 72 hours of admission, if required, by the Speech <strong>and</strong> Language<br />

<strong>The</strong>rapist<br />

• assessed within 72 hours of admission by the Physiotherapists<br />

• assessed within 4 working days of admission by the Occupational <strong>The</strong>rapists<br />
