1. A lecture titled “From Attic to Archives: the making of the TIFR Archives”
was delivered by Dr. Indira Chowdhury, Archivist of TIFR on December..,

2. A lecture delivered by Dr Subhayu Chattopadhyay, Department of History,
Visvabharati University; the title was “Science, Nationalism and Colonial
Contestations: P.N.Bose and Indian Geology”.
3. A poster presentation titled “A Tale of Two Giants (Prof Meghnad Saha and
Prof H N Russell)” was arranged on the occasion of Science Day
Celebration, 2007 in SINP Auditorium.
We are going to arrange the following events in the near future
1. A poster presentation entitled “Saha and Freedom Movement of India”
2. A National Symposium on “History of Indian Science and Technology: Pre
and Post Independence Era” in the month of September/October, 2007.
7. CONCLUSION
We cannot ignore our past, for the present and future build upon it. Scientific
research is a continuous process and it goes forward basing on the knowledge of their
predecessors. An archive provides this connection. SINP archive is also moving in this
direction. We take inspiration and guidance from every instance to help us go forward for
a better future. Every institution or organization has its own history of development
which paves the way. Only an archive can make alive and preserve this colorful world of
the past. Considering these, our ultimate goal is to make a digitalized modern scientific
archive which will be most helpful to all the researchers and users of physics as well as
the members of the general science community.
