<strong>Pulp</strong>, paper <strong>and</strong> paper products<br />

These considerations resulted <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> decision to set up a web-based workspace ma<strong>in</strong>ly<br />

for customers of MMK, which offers several functionalities that compare to <strong>the</strong> report<strong>in</strong>g<br />

function of an ERP system. The workspace was named "coMMunity". It was implemented<br />

<strong>in</strong> 2001, with development of <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>itial version tak<strong>in</strong>g about 6 months. The workspace<br />

was developed <strong>in</strong> cooperation with Freecom Internet Services GmbH, a company<br />

founded <strong>in</strong> 2000 as <strong>the</strong> IT arm of MMK. 82<br />

"coMMunity" can be regarded as an extension of <strong>the</strong> exist<strong>in</strong>g customer <strong>in</strong>formation<br />

system, with <strong>the</strong> objective to foster onl<strong>in</strong>e B2B exchanges. The service is exclusively<br />

be<strong>in</strong>g offered to exist<strong>in</strong>g MMK customers, who do not have to pay any fee for us<strong>in</strong>g it. In<br />

order to enable not-yet-registered or prospective customers a preview of how <strong>the</strong> system<br />

works, anyone can log <strong>in</strong> as a guest member without a password. Guest users can <strong>the</strong>n<br />

access <strong>and</strong> download test reports (with data be<strong>in</strong>g r<strong>and</strong>om numbers) which provides<br />

<strong>the</strong>m with a good underst<strong>and</strong><strong>in</strong>g of how <strong>the</strong> system operates.<br />

The overall objective to promote B2B exchanges onl<strong>in</strong>e was broken down <strong>in</strong>to two ma<strong>in</strong><br />

goals <strong>and</strong> development phases: <strong>the</strong> establishment of an onl<strong>in</strong>e <strong>in</strong>formation system as <strong>the</strong><br />

first phase, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> expansion of <strong>the</strong> functionality.<br />

Phase I: The coMMunity onl<strong>in</strong>e <strong>in</strong>formation system<br />

The first level goal / phase was to offer registered users access to an <strong>in</strong>novative onl<strong>in</strong>e<br />

<strong>in</strong>formation system, provid<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong>m with <strong>in</strong>dividualised data for analysis <strong>and</strong> decision<br />

mak<strong>in</strong>g processes. This phase has ma<strong>in</strong>ly been completed; <strong>the</strong> workspace offers a wide<br />

range of <strong>in</strong>formation <strong>and</strong> report<strong>in</strong>g tools. Trad<strong>in</strong>g partners that register for <strong>the</strong> portal can<br />

access practically all <strong>in</strong>formation regard<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> status of <strong>the</strong>ir current orders, as well as<br />

<strong>the</strong> record of previous orders. A broad range of reports can be downloaded with<br />

<strong>in</strong>formation about <strong>the</strong> follow<strong>in</strong>g areas:<br />

Production preview. The production preview shows an overview of <strong>the</strong> current<br />

production programme <strong>and</strong> its completion date. This is <strong>the</strong> most frequently used<br />

service.<br />

Stock track<strong>in</strong>g <strong>and</strong> monitor<strong>in</strong>g ("my <strong>in</strong>ventory"). Reports <strong>in</strong> this category<br />

provide a precise overview of your actual stock level. They help both customers<br />

<strong>and</strong> MMK to optimise <strong>the</strong> stock turnover of specific grades, by show<strong>in</strong>g orders<br />

where <strong>the</strong> confirmed delivery date has already passed <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g today.<br />

Order monitor<strong>in</strong>g. Information about <strong>the</strong> status of orders, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g current orders<br />

<strong>and</strong> monthly statistics of orders completed (by customer, enabl<strong>in</strong>g customers to<br />

analyse data).<br />

Dispatch track<strong>in</strong>g. Detailed logistics <strong>in</strong>formation enabl<strong>in</strong>g customers to track <strong>the</strong><br />

delivery status of <strong>the</strong>ir orders (<strong>in</strong> form of a detailed table with l<strong>in</strong>es for each product<br />

ordered, show<strong>in</strong>g when <strong>and</strong> from where <strong>the</strong> product was dispatched, with order<br />

numbers <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> planned dispatch dates of <strong>the</strong>ir orders).<br />
