3.4.3 Deployment of e-<strong>in</strong>voic<strong>in</strong>g<br />
Introduction<br />
In <strong>the</strong> e-<strong>Bus<strong>in</strong>ess</strong> Survey 2006, special attention was paid to <strong>the</strong> issue of electronic<br />
<strong>in</strong>voic<strong>in</strong>g (e-<strong>in</strong>voic<strong>in</strong>g). e-Invoic<strong>in</strong>g is a computer-mediated transaction between a seller /<br />
biller (<strong>in</strong>voic<strong>in</strong>g entity) <strong>and</strong> a buyer / payer (receiv<strong>in</strong>g entity), which replaces traditional<br />
paper-based <strong>in</strong>voic<strong>in</strong>g processes. In e-<strong>in</strong>voic<strong>in</strong>g, <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>voice is electronically generated<br />
<strong>and</strong> sent by <strong>the</strong> biller, <strong>and</strong> electronically received, processed <strong>and</strong> archived by <strong>the</strong> payer.<br />
In practice, e-<strong>in</strong>voic<strong>in</strong>g typically goes h<strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong> h<strong>and</strong> with mak<strong>in</strong>g payments electronically. 52<br />
It is widely recognised that <strong>the</strong> use of e-<strong>in</strong>voic<strong>in</strong>g promises ra<strong>the</strong>r easy-to-achieve cost<br />
sav<strong>in</strong>gs for both parties <strong>in</strong>volved (<strong>in</strong>voic<strong>in</strong>g entity <strong>and</strong> receiv<strong>in</strong>g entity), because<br />
process<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>voices <strong>in</strong> a st<strong>and</strong>ardised, electronic format can be accomplished much<br />
