1.4 Field Programmable Gate Arrays 25<br />

The largest DSP-optimized Virtex-6 FPGA is the XC6VSX475T, which contains<br />

74,400 slices. With the 2,128 18Kb single-ported SelectRAM blocks, or<br />

1,064 36Kb dual-ported SelectRAM blocks it can provide a maximum of 38,304<br />

Kbit RAM in various depth <strong>and</strong> width configurations. It has also 2,016 DSP48E1<br />

slices.<br />

7th generation Xilinx FPGAs are manufactured with the state-of-the-art,<br />

high-performance, low-power (HPL), 28 nm, high-k metal gate (HKMG) process<br />

technology. All 7 series devices share a unified fourth-generation Advanced Silicon<br />

Modular Block (ASMBL T M ) column-based architecture that reduces system<br />

development <strong>and</strong> deployment time with simplified design portability.<br />

The innovative Stacked Silicon Interconnect (SSI) technology enables multiple<br />

Super Logic Regions (SLRs) to be combined on a passive interposer layer,<br />

to create a single FPGA with more than ten thous<strong>and</strong> inter- SLR connections,<br />

providing ultra-high b<strong>and</strong>width connectivity with low latency <strong>and</strong> low power consumption.<br />

There are two types of SLRs used in Virtex-7 FPGAs: a logic intensive<br />

SLR <strong>and</strong> a DSP/blockRAM/transceiver-rich SLR.<br />

The largest 7th series Xilinx FPGA will contain almost 2 million logic cells<br />

forming more than 300,000 slices. It will embed 85Mb blockRAM. The largest<br />

DSP optimized Virtex-7 FPGA will contain 5,280 ExtremeDSP48 DSP processors<br />

providing 6,737GMACS operations. The total transceiver b<strong>and</strong>width (full<br />

duplex) will be 2,784Gb/s. It will also support the latest gen3x8 PCI Express<br />

interface <strong>and</strong> will contain maximum 1,200 I/O pins.<br />

Virtex-7 FPGAs are ideally suited for highest performance wireless, wired,<br />

<strong>and</strong> broadcast infrastructure equipment, aerospace <strong>and</strong> defense systems, highperformance<br />

computing, as well as ASIC prototyping <strong>and</strong> emulation.
