Suggested programme.<br />

Day 1:<br />

Arrive at your hotel on the Slovenian coast.<br />

Day 2:<br />

Today travel to Koper, one of the most important harbour towns<br />

of Slovenia. The town started to grow on an island and it the 19th<br />

century it was joined to the mainland. After some free time in Koper<br />

travel by boat to Izola, a picturesque fishing town, where you<br />

can enjoy a short stop before traveling on to Strunjan. In the salt<br />

works of Strunjan salt is still gained using the traditional methods.<br />

Enjoy a leisurely stroll along the salt works, and from the cliffs delight<br />

in the wonderful view of the sea and the coastline. Your day<br />

ends with a wine tasting.<br />

Day 3:<br />

After breakfast travel to the salt works of Secovlje. The region is<br />

the largest coastal wetland and as such, an important location for<br />

nesting and migrating birds. You then travel via boat to the Fonda<br />

oyster and fish farm. In the afternoon, visit the town of Piran, said<br />

to be the prettiest town on the Slovenian coast. Discover some of<br />

the town’s highlights, such as the old squares, the churches and<br />

the Cathedral before taking time to relax in the sun or to sit at a<br />

café. To Kranjska end Gora the day, visit a local farm where you can enjoy a wine<br />

and olive tasting.<br />

Day 4:<br />

You leave the coast and head inland today. Your first stop is the Skocjan<br />

caves followed by a visit to the Kras<br />

tasting before you visit the town of<br />

Stanjel with its typical architecture.<br />

You then continue on to the capital<br />

of Slowenia, Ljubljana.<br />

Day 5:<br />

In the morning, we recommend<br />

a city tour of Lubjlana before traveling<br />

on to the Dolenjska region,<br />

home to the pale red Cvicek wine.<br />

Here you start with a visit to the<br />

Matjazeva Domacija, a 150-year-old<br />

house which has been renovated<br />

and returned to its earlier<br />

splendour. You can then enjoy a<br />

walk round the Pleterje open-air<br />

museum before traveling to your<br />

hotel in the Novo Mesto region for<br />

the evening.<br />

Day 6:<br />

Strengthened with breakfast, travel to the Partisan base camp –<br />

Baza 20 where you will discover hidden hospitals, printers and<br />

workshops. Most of the accommodation is as it was during the<br />

war and some barracks hold exhibitions from earlier inhabitants.<br />

You then travel on to Novo Mesto, which lies on the shores of the<br />

Krka River and is the centre of the Dolenjsa region. During a walk<br />

through the town centre, you can discover the town hall, the Kandijski<br />

Bridge and the St. Nicholas church. Your day ends with a<br />

relaxing rafting tour including wine, as you pass the Kamen Castle,<br />

Novi dvor, St. Nicholas church and the old town.<br />

Day 7:<br />

Depart homeward after breakfast.<br />
