The Moselle and its Gardens<br />

This tour is a highlight for culture and nature lovers! In addition to<br />

its rich history, the region is well-known as an excellent gardening<br />

area. The 3 corner country Germany, Luxembourg, France offers<br />

various picturesque gardens. Whether baroque, renaissance or<br />

roman gardens, this region provides a beautiful garden journey<br />

for everyone.<br />

Suggested programme:<br />

Day 1:<br />

Arrival at your hotel, your home for the next 5 nights.<br />

Day 2:<br />

After breakfast you depart to Trier. Germany’s oldest city is an important<br />

site for classical monuments and art treasures. The most<br />

famous landmark is the Porta Nigra Gate, which is the largest and<br />

best-preserved Roman city gate north of the Alps. During a sightseeing<br />

tour a guide shows you the city and its most impressing<br />

monuments. In the afternoon, you continue to the Moselle, where<br />

you board a boat for a two-hour boat ride. During that time, you<br />

enjoy the beautiful panorama and nature of the Moselle region.<br />

Day 3:<br />

Today you spend the day in the neighbouring country France. The<br />

first stop is the garden "Jardins des Traces" near Metz. Take your<br />

time and discover this unique garden on 4 hectares of industrial<br />

wasteland. The concept is based on three spaces: the alchemy<br />

garden, the garden of the steelworkers and the garden of the<br />

energies. Next, you depart to Metz, where you discover the city<br />

during a guided tour. Later on, you have more time to explore<br />

the city and the French cuisine. In the afternoon, you either have<br />

free time or you visit the garden "Jardins Fruitiers". This marvellous<br />

garden consists of an orchard and thematic gardens that are<br />

structured around the concept of taste and flavours.<br />

Day 4:<br />

Your tour today takes you to Luxemburg. The city of Luxemburg<br />

impresses with a real mix of styles. Between remnants of the past<br />

and contemporary architecture you explore a town full of contrasts.<br />

Afterwards, you continue to the small town of Grevenmacher, which<br />

is the capital of the Moselle in Luxemburg as well as an important<br />

vine-growing and commercial centre in a marvellous surrounding.<br />

Have lunch and make a short walk in the old town with its small<br />

streets and remains of medieval fortifications. Later on, you discover<br />

the Butterfly garden with its 50 different species of butterflies.<br />

Your last stop is a wine cellar in the<br />

region that has 1.300 hectares of<br />

vines stretch out along the sides of<br />

the Moselle Valley. You learn more<br />

about the wine production and the<br />

world-known wines.<br />

Day 5:<br />

After breakfast start with a visit of<br />

the Roman Villa Borg, which is a<br />

reconstructed Roman "villa rustica".<br />

possible. After a drive along the Saar Bow with a photo stop at the<br />

internationally known “Cloev”, you have different options. You can<br />

visit the Ceramic Museum and the different exhibitions at the world-famous<br />

porcelain manufacturer Villeroy & Boch. Another option<br />

is a visit of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Völklinger Hütte,<br />

where you get an interesting insight in the former work place of the<br />

ironworkers. A visit at "Garten der Sinne" is also recommended.<br />

Seeing, smelling, tasting and hearing – at different gardens you<br />

enjoy the nature with all senses.<br />

Day 6:<br />
