Discover South Tyrol, imbedded between Austria and Italy this is a
region with a great deal to offer; wine, festivals, lakes and mountains.
Suggested programme:
Day 1:
Arrive at your hotel, your home for the next four nights.
Day 2:
After a relaxing breakfast travel to the town of Bolzano where
you will be met by your city guide. Discover the highlights and
secrets of the medieval town centre, where the cold North meets
the warm south. Bolzano is the capital of the Alto Adige region
and is famous for its town museum which houses the 5,000 year
old mummy – Otzi (the ice man). Bolzano is also a wine-lovers
paradise with many vineyards mixed with the flowering orchards,
so before returning to your hotel you will be able to enjoy a wine
tasting of some of the region’s best wines.
Day 3:
Today we recommend a trip to the city and region of Meran where
you can enjoy palm and olive trees in the valleys and glaciers on
the surrounding mountains. Meran is a town of contrasts which
invites you to explore its streets and squares. Enjoy a guided tour
of the city or take a stroll at your own pace or just sit and enjoy a
coffee and cake in one of the cafés. In the afternoon we recommend
a visit to the spectacular gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle
before returning to your hotel.
Day 4:
A scenic tour of the local countryside is our recommendation for today.
Visit the Brenta Dolomite region and the towns of Madonna di
Campiglio, one of Italy’s top ski resorts, the
Brenta Natural Park with its waterfall and
the Lake of Molveno. On your trip you will have plenty of photo opportunities
for spectacular pictures of jagged snow-capped peaks,
luscious green meadows and pretty towns and villages.
Day 5:
Depart homeward.
from E 205.-
TIPS: Autumn is a time of festivals in South Tyrol, so why not
plan your trip to coincide with one of the following:
The Sterzing Dumpling festival. Held in September this is a
delight for all gourmets. Try the different traditional and unusual
dumplings such as bacon, serviette and wild mushroom.
South Tyrol is famous for its smoked bacon and in October
you can enjoy not just a plate of cheese and bacon but also the
freshly harvested apples and grapes of the region – all washed
down with some of the best wine.
