Austria Cities-Multicentred Tours GROUP TRAVEL<br />

Suggested programme:<br />
Day 1:<br />
Arrival in Heidelberg or the surrounding area, overnight stay and<br />
dinner at the hotel.<br />
Day 2:<br />
Transfer to Munich. Enjoy a traditional Bavarian lunch, then join<br />
your guide on an informative sightseeing tour of the city. Overnight<br />
in your hotel in Munich.<br />
Day 3:<br />
Leave Munich for the Salzkammergut lake district, where there will<br />
be the chance to have an early lunch in the lakeside town of Gmünden.<br />
The next stop will then be in Melk.. Perched high above the<br />
banks of the Danube, the magnificent Benedictine abbey of Melk<br />
dominates the landscape for miles around. A short stop will also be<br />
made in the quaint little village of Dürnstein, where Richard the Lionheart<br />
was once held prisoner until rescued by his faithful minstrel<br />
Blondel. The journey then continues to Baden near Venna. Dinner<br />
and overnight in your hotel in Baden or the surrounding area.<br />
Day 4:<br />
This morning join your local guide for this morning’s guided walking<br />
tour through the historic heart of Vienna. Dinner and overnight in<br />
the hotel.<br />
Day 5<br />
Today full day excursion to Vienna. First of all discover Vienna in the<br />
course of a general sightseeing tour of the city where you can see the<br />
Ringstrasse, the State Opera House, the Imperial Palace and many<br />
more sights. The real highlight of the tour is a visit to Schönbrunn Palace,<br />
the summer residence of the Austrian imperial family. After lunch<br />
in the inner district your guide will take you through the historic area<br />
around St Stephan’s cathedral, the landmark of Vienna and show you<br />
some of the hidden treasures of the city. During the tour you will also<br />
see some of the most popular shopping areas of modern-day Vienna;<br />
the Kärntner Strasse, Vienna’s most fashionable shopping street<br />
and pedestrian area, as well as the adjoining Graben and Kohlmarkt<br />
with their exclusive designer boutiques and elegant cafés. Return<br />
transfer to Baden in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight.<br />
Day 6:<br />
Leave today for Hungary. First stop in Sopron, the small town situated<br />
right on the Austro-Hungarian border. It is a city where past and<br />
present merge, a bridge between Hungary and it‘s western neighbours<br />
and a gate for guests visiting Hungary, as is symbolized by<br />
the coat of arms of Sopron. Enjoy a walking tour through the town,<br />
then continue to nearby Fertöd. Visit the largest and most splendid<br />
baroque mansion of the country, Esterhàzy Kastély, the ‘Hungarian<br />
Versailles’ in Fertöd. It was built for Hungary’s richest aristocratic family,<br />
the Esterházys, and the composer Joseph Haydn spent more<br />
than a decade in this building as the court composer. After lunch<br />
continue towards Lake Balaton, where you will spend the next four<br />
nights. Dinner and overnight in your hotel in Balatonfüred.<br />
Day 7:<br />
Today excursion to Budapest, the capital of Hungary. On a sightseeing<br />
tour your guide will show you all of the major sights,<br />
including the Citadel on Gellert’s Hill, the Millennium Monument on<br />
Heroes’ Square, Matthew’s Church, the castle district, the picturesque<br />
Fishermen’s Bastion, which also offers a splendid panoramic<br />
view over the whole of the city, the city park, Margaret’s island<br />
and the main shopping area. Lunch is included in a traditional<br />
restaurant, and after the sightseeing tour there will be some time<br />
to explore the city on your own before returning to Balatonfüred.<br />
Day 8:<br />
Today you can take time to completely relax in the beautiful area of<br />
Balatonfüred. Dinner and overnight in your hotel.<br />
Day 9:<br />
Today full day excursion to Pécs. Pécs was elected the European<br />
Cultural Capital for 2010 and certainly has a lot to offer. Upon arrival<br />
lunch will be served in a traditional restaurant. Afterwards enjoy a<br />
