However, the physicochemical propertiesof fiberglass materials, specifically the Brønsted acidity, were not studied in detail. Mostfrequently used techniques for acidity study could not be applied to fiberglass materialsbecause their structure is disrupted on a sample pretreatment.For in situ characterization of catalyst acidity, i.e. under conditions close to real operatingconditions of the catalyst, the isotope-dynamic method (so called SSITKA – Steady-StateIsotopic Transient Kinetic Analysis) could be used. This method is unique that being nonsteady-state(relaxational) it allows carrying out the kinetic analysis under process steadystateconditions, when the rates of all reaction stages and the catalyst condition remainconstant.In our work, we developed the H/D-exchange technique based on SSITKA fordetermination of Brønsted acidity of fiberglass materials. The experiments were carried out ina plug-flow reactor at 500°C. Under the dynamic adsorption-desorption equilibrium the H 2flow was replaced stepwise by the D 2 flow with the following mass-spectrometric analysis ofchanges in labeled atoms concentrations (so called isotopic response curves) at the reactoroutlet. Based on the observed concentrations of the isotope molecules (H 2 , HD, and D 2 ), wecalculated the time dependencies of the atomic fraction of labeled hydrogen atoms ( α ) andthe molecular fraction of HD ( fHD) in the gas phase. The numerical analysis of α (t D) and(t)response curves was carried out in terms of strict mathematical model taking intoDf HD273account three kinetically resolvable types of isotope exchange on the catalyst surface, namely,1) homoexchange without participation of OH groups of the catalyst (type I); 2) simpleheteroexchange between one deuterium atom of D 2 in gas phase and one hydrogen atom ofthe catalyst (type II); 3) multiple heteroexchange between D 2 molecule and two hydrogenatoms of the catalyst (type III), and also the diffusion of deuterium atoms in the bulk of glassfiber.
