OP-III-4SCR OF NO x IN DIESEL EXHAUST WITH ONBOARD PRODUCEDSYNGAS AS REDUCTANTSmirnov E.I., Kirillov V.A., Amosov Yu.I., Bobrin A.S., Belyaev V.D., Sobyanin V.A.Boreskov Institute of Catalysis SB RAS,pr. Lavrentieva, 5, 630090, Novosibirsk, Russia, E-mail: esmirnov@catalysis.ruAt the present state of the art, diesel engines have the best potential for low fuelconsumption out of all existing internal combustion engines. At the same time the using ofdiesel engines for vehicle propulsion will require a continuous development of exhaustaftertreatment systems [1, 2].Today, a high concentration of NO x in diesel engine exhaust is the most importantecological problem. Because of inevitable enforcement of vehicle NO x emission standards inthe future, the promising solution of the NO x emission problem is the application of catalyticsystems for exhaust aftertreatment. A number of such systems were developed [3]. Today twomost competitive methods are: Selective Catalytic Reduction of NO x with urea as reducingagent (Urea-SCR) and Lean NO x Trapping (LNT).The recent results obtained in a number of research centers, including the BIC, haveshown that hydrogen is an efficient reducing agent of nitrogen oxides on Ag/Al 2 O 3 catalyst atlean conditions and temperatures from 150 °C [4-7].In the presenting work it was shown that the application of synthesis gas with a high H 2concentration for NO x reduction on Ag/Al 2 O 3 catalyst is very promising method (Syngas-SCR). Synthesis gas can be onboard generated via autothermal reforming of the diesel fuel, thus there appears a possibility to develop efficient catalytic system for NO x neutralization(see the figure below).NOx conversion, %1009080250 degree C70300 degree C60350 degree C502,5 3,0 3,5 4,0 4,5Syngas-SCR estimated fuel penalty, %In the table below we compared the suggested method (Syngas-SCR) with the existing onthe market technologies of diesel engine exhaust aftertreatment:99
