An exhaustive analytic and numerical study of travelling waves of fracturereveals the existence of supersonic modes of transformations. The very important forgeotectonics problem of ignition (starting) of earthquakes catastrophic waves by localdisturbance in earth rock is investigated. With the present model, the critical strain necessaryto ignite gasless detonation by local perturbations is determined.There are discussed some works of geophysicists [6,7] in which a phase transformationconcept was used for explanation of earthquakes phenomenon. There is discussed thequestion about possibility of laboratory experimental modeling of earthquake with example ofsuper-fast decay of metastable silicate glasses – chemical analogues of earth rock matter(explosives of «Prince Ruppert Drops» [8] and «Tempered Glasses» [9]).The work performed at the financial support of RFBR № 07-03-00259.References:1.
