CLAUSON,High Commissioner and Commander-in-Chief.WHEREAS by a Proclamation dated the 5thAugust, 1914, Martial Law was proclaimedin and over the Island of Cyprus.AND WHEBEAS it is desirable in the publicinterest that the amount of foodstuffs grown inthe Island should be maintained or increased.Now I, John Eugene Clauson, Major in theReserve of Oflficers of the Oorpa of Royal Engineers,Knight Commander of the Most DistinguishedOrder of Saint Michael and Saint George, Commanderof the Royal Victorian Order, His Majesty'sHigh Commissioner and Ck>mmander-in-Chief inand over the Island of Cyprus, do hereby orderand proclaim as foUows:—1. In this Order the phrase " tobacco cultivation" Includes planting, watering, plucking,tending, stringing, drying, or baling tobacco, andany form of work in connection with tobaccogrowing until the raw tobacco is ready fortransport for manufacturing purposes.2. No male person over the age of twelveyears and under the age of sixty years, otherthan the holder of a Ucense to cultivate tobaccoworking on the land in respect of which thelicense was issued, shaU be engaged in tobaccocultivation.3. No female person over the age of twelveyears and under the age of fifty years, otherthan the holder of a Ucense to cultivate tobaccoworking on the land in respect of which theUcense was issued, shaU be engaged in tobaccocultivation.4. The C!ommissioner of the District may grantspecial permission in writing for any male personover the age of twelve years and under the ageof sixty years or any female person over the ageof twelve years and under the age of fifty yearsto be engaged in tobacco cultivation, if he shaUbe satisfied that such person cannot be engagedin the work of harvest.5. This Order shall come into operation ontbe 1st day of August, 1918.6. Any person who shall commit any breachof this Order shaU be Uable under Martial Law topunishment by fine or imprisonment, or both suchpenalties, and any person on whose land anyperson shall commit a breach of this Order shallbe Uable to be punished as aforesaid.Given under the hand and oflficial seal of theHigh Commissioner and C!)ommander-in-Chief at Troodos, this 26th day of July,1918. (MP. 898/18 )No. 347.NOTICE RELATING TO <strong>THE</strong> IMPORTATIONOF CERTAIN ARTICLES INTO <strong>THE</strong>UNITED KINGDOM.AS from and after the 22nd March, 1918, theimportation into the United Kingdom of thefoUowing goods is prohibited, viz. :—Molasses and invert sugar and aU other sugarsand extracts from sugar which cannot becompletely tested by the polarlscope, and onwhich Oistomsduty is not otherwise charged.Plaiting of aU descriptions not otherwise prohibited.Rattans and malacca canes.Weighing machines, scales and balances of aUdescriptions not otherwise prohibited.Wood flour.This prohibition does not apply to any suchgoods which are Imported under Ucense given byor on behalf of the Board of Trade.(M.P. 519/16.)No. 348.NOTICE RELATING TO <strong>THE</strong> IMPORTATIONOF CERTAIN ARTICLES INTO <strong>THE</strong>UNITED KINGDOM.AS from and after the 13th April, 1918, the importationinto the United Kingdom of thefoUowing goods is hereby prohibited, viz.:—Boots, shoes and sUppers of aU materials,not already prohibited.Brishngs, herrings, sprats and mousses,tiimed, in oil or tomato or other dressing.This prohibition shall not apply to any suchgoods which are imported under Ucense given byor on behalf of the Board of Trade, and subjectto the provisions and conditions of such Ucense.(M.P. 519/16.)By His Excellency's Command,M.
