CLAUSON,A PROCLAMATION.High Commissioner.WHEREAS pursuant to the provisions of theIrrigation and Water Law, 1887, the Commissionerof Famagusta held, on the 18th day of May,1918, a public meeting of the proprietors of land inthe villages of Lefkoniko, Yenagra, Peristerona andPiyi for the purpose (a) of electing a new Committeefor the " Lizios and Varka " Irrigation Division, underRule 12 of the Rules annexed to the Proclamationby His Excellency the High Commissioner dated the8th day of March, 1917, and (b) of amending thesaid Rules:AND WHEBEAS Messrs. Michael G. Kamindji,Yannis Hj. Christodoulou and Georgis Hj. Sotiriwere elected a Committee to take the place of theCommittee whose mandate has expired under Rule 12of the Rules aforesaid :AND WHEREAS the said Committee has togetherwith and under the presidency of the Commissioner ofFamagusta drawn up accordingly the Rule in theSchedule hereto in substitution for Rule 12 of theRules hereinbefore mentioned :AND WHEREAS pursuant to section 34 of the Irriga'tion and Water Law, 1887, the said Rule was publishedin the Cyprus Gazette No. 1338 of the 26th July,1918, and copies thereof have been duly posted in thevillages above mentioned together with a notice asprescribed by law, and no objection has been made tothe said Rule :NOW, <strong>THE</strong>REFORE, I, John Eugene Clauson, Majorin the Reserve of Officers of the Corps of RoyalEngineers, Knight Commander of the Most DistinguishedOrder of Saint Michael and Saint George,Commander of the Royal Victorian Order, His Majesty'sHigh Commissioner and Commander-in-Chief in andover the Island of Cyprus, in exercise of the authorityvested in me in that behalf by the Irrigation andWater Law, 1887, do hereby notify and proclaim thatthe said Rule has been considered and approved by mein Council and is set forth in the Schedule hereto.Given at Troodos, this 18th day of September, 1918-GOD SAVE <strong>THE</strong> KING.<strong>THE</strong> SCHEDULE ABOVE REFERRED TO.Rule 12. CLAUSON,A PROCLAMATION.Hiyh Commissioner.WHEREAS by the Locust Destruction ExpensesLaw, 1881, it is amongst other things providedthat there shall be charged, collected and paid for theperiod and purposes set forth in the said law certainrates, duties and taxes mentioned in certain SchedulesA. B. C D. and E. thereto.AND WHEREAS by the same law it is further providedthat the High Commissioner in Council may fromtime to time by Proclamation suspend, in whole orin part, from a day to be named in the order, thecollection of any of the rates, taxes and duties specifiedin any of the aforesaid Schedules to the said law andmay from time to time in like manner rescind or varysuch order.Now I, John Eugene Clauson, Major in the Reserveof Officers of the Corps of Royal Engineers, KnightCommander of the Most Distinguished Order of SaintMichael and Saint George, Commander of the RoyalVictorian Order, His Majesty's High Commissionerand Commander-in-Chief in and over the Island ofCyprus, in exercise of the powers vested in me by theLocust Destruction Expenses Law, 1881 and otherwise,and with the advice of the Executive Council,do hereby order as follows :(a) The duties and taxes mentioned in SchedulesA. B. and E. shall be suspended from the 1st day ofMarch, 1919, for the period of one year.(J) The collection of the duties and taxes mentionedin Schedules C and D. shall be suspendedfrom the 1st day of March, 1919, until furthernotice.(c) This Proclamation shaU come into force onthe 1st day of March, 1919, and thereupon theProclamation, dated the llth October, 1917, dealingwith this matter shall be superseded by this Proclamation.Given at Troodos, this 23rd day of September, 1918.ΚΥΠΡΙΑΚΗ ΔΗΜΟΚΡΑΤΙΑGOD SAVE <strong>THE</strong> KING.(M.P. 953/09.)
