CLAUSON,A PROCLAMATION.High Commissioner."IT^HEREAS by a Proclamation, dated the 5thIT August, 1914, Martial Law was proclaimedand declared to prevail in the Island of Cyprus.AND WHEREAS by a Proclamation, dated theIst February, 1915, the exportation of veaselsto all destinations other than the United Kingdomand British Possessions was prohibited.AND WHEEEAS it is desirable to make furtherprovision for the proper control of vessels duringthe continuance of the War.Now I, John Eugene Clauson, Major in theReserve of Officers of the Corps of RoyalEngineers, Knight Commander of the Most DistinguishedOrder of Saint Michael and Saint George,Commander of the Royal Victorian Order, HisMajesty's High Commissioner and Commander-in-Chief in and over the Island of Cyprus, do orderand proclaim as follows :—1. That no ship, barque, craft, lighter or boatof any description whatever registered in Cypmsor owned wholly or in part by or subject to anyinterest legal or equitable either wholly or in partof any person, partnership, anonyme or othercompany or firm resident or having a place ofbusiness' or doing business in Cyprus shaU betrMisferred or such interest assigned by way ofsale, gift, succession or in any way whatever toany'person, partnership, anonyme or other companyor firm unless such person, partnership,anonyme or other company or firm shall be ofBritish nationaUty either resident or having aplace of business or domg business in Cypruswithout the consent of His Excellency the HighCommissioner testified to in writing under thehand of the Chief Secretary to the Goverament ofCyprus.2. No transfer of or assignment of such interestin any such ship, barque, craft. Ughter or boat ^oregistered or owned wholly or in part or subjectto such interest as aforesaid, shall be made at allunless 21 days previous notice of such intendedtransfer or assignment of such interest as aforesaidshaU have been given to the Chief Collectorof Customs in Cyprus.3. No ship, barque, craft, Ughter or boat registeredor owned wholly or in part or subject tosuch interest as aforesaid shaU depart from anyport in Cyprus (a) for any port of Cyprus withoutthe written permission of the Principal Offippr ofthe Customs at the port of departure or (6) forany port outside of Cyprus except with thewritten permission of the Chief Collector ofCiLstoms and the deposit of such sum of moneynot being greater than twice the value of suchship, barque, craft, Ughter or boat as may berequired by the Chief Collector of Customs to bedeposited to insure the retum of such ship,barque, craft, Ughter or boat to a port in Cypruswithin such reasonable period as may be prescribedin such written permission and in the event ofany failure to return within such prescribed timesuch sum of money so deposited shall be Uable toconfiscation unless an explanation of such failureto return be given to the satisfaction of the ChiefCoUector of Customs.Nothing herein shall be deemed to dispensewith the requirements otherwise required by lawor otherwise on the departure of any ship,barque, craft, Ughter or boat from a port ofCyprus.Given at Nicosia, this 29th day of January,1918.GOD SAVE <strong>THE</strong> KING.(M.P. 1081/14/55.)No. 46.NOTICE RELATING TO <strong>THE</strong> IMPORTATIONINTO <strong>CYPRUS</strong> OF GOODS REQUIRINGTRANSHIPMENT AT A PORT IN <strong>THE</strong>UNITED KINGDOM.TMPORTERS into Cypras of Goods that have1 to be transhipped at a Port in the UnitedKingdom are hereby notified that it will be advisablefor them before ordering Goods or makingany arrangements for their transhipment to consultthe Lwenaing Authorities in the United Kingdom.ΚΥΠΡΙΑΚΗ ΔΗΜΟΚΡΑΤΙΑDisappointment and loss will probably resultif strict attention be not paid to this advice.(M.P. olG/ie.)
