This profile is assigned for the semester of the actual sabbatical semesteronly.Load AdjustmentsSome faculty assignments will not fit the profiles perfectly. Therefore, thefollowing adjustments will be used to allow for more flexibility:• If the teaching hours-per-year total falls below the minimum for the profile,three additional university service points will be required for each hour belowthe minimum. If the teaching hours exceed those of the profile, threeuniversity service points will be credited for each hour above the maximum.• If the preparation total falls below the minimum for the profile, two additionaluniversity service points will be required for each preparation. If thepreparation total exceeds those of the profile, two university service points willbe credited for each preparation above the maximum.• If the total number of students falls below the minimum for the profile, oneadditional university service point will be required for each 100 students. If thenumber of students exceeds the maximum for the profile, one universityservice point will be credited for each 100 students.Loads may be adjusted by adding or subtracting according to the followingequivalencies:• 1 preparation = 2 service points• 100 students = 1 service pointGraduate Pay for Final Projects, Thesis, and RecitalsIn most programs a minimum of $500 will be paid to each director of a thesis or finalproject with the amount to be determined by the appropriate program director and dean.The total amount paid for thesis supervision must not exceed the amount of tuitionpaid by the student for the thesis or project. If the graduate program requires an area orcomprehensive exam in lieu of a thesis, the total amount paid to a board of examinersmust not exceed the amount of tuition paid by the student for the area or comprehensiveexam.In most cases, pay should not be requested until the project or thesis is completedand a grade assigned. In cases where students require additional semesters forcompletion, a stipend of $100 for the project/recital director may be requested at thebeginning of each additional semester in which the student enrolls in a continuationgraduate project/recital/thesis course.Directed StudiesIf a scheduling problem makes it necessary for students to take a course throughDirected Study, the faculty member supervising one to three students in the study will begiven load credit for 33% of the total number of hours of the study.
