_________________LEE UNIVERSITY FACULTY HANDBOOK & CONSTITUTION_________________<strong>Faculty</strong> Meetings and DevelopmentDAL faculty are expected to attend all available faculty meetings and developmentopportunities as they are offered. The DAL offers a monthly online faculty webinar thathighlights changes in the DAL, updates from the university, guest speakers, LearningManagement System updates, FERPA regulations, and other helpful faculty news.<strong>Faculty</strong> who are unable to attend can watch faculty webinars and other facultydevelopment sessions on the DAL <strong>Faculty</strong> website. <strong>Faculty</strong> attendance is taken at themonthly webinars, and faculty who watch the webinar recordings are also given credit forparticipating. Onsite faculty meetings will be scheduled as needed in Charlotte, NC andCleveland, TN. <strong>Faculty</strong> may suggest faculty development topics by contacting the DAL<strong>Faculty</strong> Services Office.<strong>Faculty</strong> Contracts and PayOnce DAL faculty are hired, they may be offered a contract for 8-week courses at anypoint. The university reserves the right to staff courses as needed. DAL faculty are notguaranteed a contract for each 8-week session through the year, nor are they guaranteedto teach each year. <strong>Faculty</strong> assignments are based on faculty need, which is tied tocourse enrollment. The university reserves the right to staff courses first with full-timefaculty and then part-time faculty, as needed.The faculty compensation schedule will be made available annually to faculty throughthe DAL Director of <strong>Faculty</strong> Services.Course Cancellation<strong>Lee</strong> <strong>University</strong> reserves the right to cancel a course due to low enrollment, to changeclass times or class instructors, cancel classes or create new classes, and alter any otherpolicies or dates related to registration and academics at any time without prior notice.Notification of such changes will be published in an appropriate manner.<strong>Faculty</strong> ExpectationsThe DAL expects faculty to teach their courses, whether online or onsite, withoutaltering the class schedule. Instructors may not cancel classes. If the instructor cannotbe present for the course, he or she should contact the appropriate center director or theOffice of <strong>Faculty</strong> Services so that a substitute can be found. Students are paying forinstruction and deserve eight weeks of instruction in their courses. DAL faculty areexpected to:• Contact all students prior to the start of a course to welcome each student.• Respond to students within 24 hours of an inquiry/question.• Interact with students in a minimum of two discussion forums per unit.• Have assignments graded and posted within seven days of the required due date.• Place priority on proper writing and communication skills.• Be comfortable in a more open, student-centered learning experience.• Monitor student participation and report immediately students at risk (students notresponding, not turning in assignments, not participating, etc.). Students at riskshould be reported to the <strong>Faculty</strong> Services Office so the DAL staff can intervene.8 - 3 Division of Adult Learning
