Impress upon the student the advantages of talking with his/her academicadvisor and a strengths/vocational advisor during the semester.Any questions related to the assignment of or change in advising should be directedto the Director of Academic Services. Academic department chairpersons have theprivilege of recommending changes in advisor/advisee assignments. Any questionsrelated to the assignment of or change in advising for Division of Adult Learning studentsshould be directed to the Director of <strong>Faculty</strong> Services.Center for Calling & CareerThis Center, established by the Poiema Project, provides resources for students,faculty and staff to examine their strengths and discover a clearer sense of calling byunderstanding who they are as God’s “work of art.” The Center will develop a strengthsbasedapproach to advising that allows time for students to enter into dialogue with aStrengths/Vocational advisor to discuss who they are, what they enjoy, what they dobest, and what they believe they are called to do with their life. Students will come to theCenter to declare or change their academic program, and to receive career explorationinformation or individual career counseling or employment preparation.Strength/Vocational Advisor’s Responsibilities and Expectations1. Report to the CC&C for 1 hour per week for scheduled or drop-in studentadvising.2. Participate in workshops and seminars to prepare for this role.3. Attend 2 Fall and 2 Spring meetings for debriefing and continuing advisoreducation.4. Support the activities and events sponsored by the Center for Calling & Career.5. Represent the interests of the Center to your department.6. Listen, question, encourage and guide students in self-discovery.7. Affirm and celebrate each advisee as a “work of art” created for God’s glory.8. Adhere to the standards of confidentiality as stated in the Advising <strong>Handbook</strong>.<strong>Faculty</strong> Attendance Expectations 1<strong>Faculty</strong> Meetings and SeminarsSeminars for the purpose of in–service training are provided for the faculty threetimes during the school year. All faculty members are expected to take advantage ofthese educational opportunities. Attendance at monthly faculty meetings and all pre–session and post–session faculty seminars is required of both regular and associatefaculty. <strong>Faculty</strong> members should have absences approved in advance by the VicePresident for Academic Affairs by submitting a request in writing prior to the absence.Commissioning Services, Graduation Exercises, and Special EventsAll faculty are expected to attend Spring and Winter graduations and commissioningservices unless they have received prior approval for absence from the Vice President forAcademic Affairs. All faculty who teach in any session of summer school are expected toattend Summer graduation and commissioning unless they have received prior approval1 For DAL faculty attendance expectations please see the Division of Adult Learning section.5 - 11 Responsibilities of the <strong>Faculty</strong>
