The faculty member whose tenure isdelayed in the sixth year of service at <strong>Lee</strong> <strong>University</strong> may be continued in aprobationary status with a subsequent tenure review. Such faculty members may bereviewed again at any time specified by the Tenure Review Committee, but the finalreview must be no later than the ninth year of full-time service. A faculty member whofails to receive tenure in the ninth year of full-time teaching may be terminated at theend of that academic year or be considered for continuing contract status.Procedures for Evaluation, Granting of Tenure, and NotificationA. A Tenure Review Committee will evaluate faculty candidates for tenure and forwardrecommendations to the Board of Directors.B. The President will chair the committee and present committee recommendations tothe Board of Directors.C. The committee will be composed of the President, the Vice President for AcademicAffairs, the Chairperson of the <strong>Faculty</strong> Council, the dean of the school of the tenurecandidate under consideration, and the chairperson of the department of the tenurecandidate under consideration.D. All non-tenured faculty who will be renewed for their fourth year of service will receivea written evaluation of their performance and progress toward tenure by the TenureReview Committee.E. All members of the full-time teaching faculty, ranked assistant professor or higher,and holding the appropriate terminal degree from an accredited institution orcommensurate professional achievement will automatically become candidates fortenure in their sixth year of full-time teaching. They will be reviewed by the committeeduring the fall semester of the sixth year.F. It is the responsibility of the department chairperson and the tenure candidate tosubmit a tenure portfolio to the Tenure Review Committee. The portfolio of eachtenure candidate will include a copy of the department chair’s recommendation whichhas been made available to the candidate. The department chair’s recommendationwill be for the granting of tenure, its deferment, or the denial of tenure.G. Candidates will receive from the Chairman of the Tenure Review Committee writtennotification of the tenure decision and a summary of the assessment of theirperformance by January 15 of their sixth year.H. The committee may make one of four recommendations in respect to a tenurecandidate: to grant tenure, to deny tenure, to defer a decision until the candidate’snext tenure evaluation period (1-3 years), or put on continuing contract without furtherconsideration. A candidate given a deferred decision, being subsequently evaluatedin her or his ninth year, must be either granted or denied tenure at that time. A facultymember who fails to receive tenure in the ninth year of full-time service may beterminated at the end of that academic year or be considered for continuing contractstatus.I. To enable the committee to undertake a thorough review of the candidate’s overallteaching record at <strong>Lee</strong> <strong>University</strong> and to facilitate the professional development of anon-tenured faculty person, department chairpersons will file an annual written4 - 9 <strong>Faculty</strong> <strong>Constitution</strong> and Bylaws
