_________________LEE UNIVERSITY FACULTY HANDBOOK & CONSTITUTION_________________DAL <strong>Faculty</strong>-related Policies and ProceduresEnrollment Verification and ParticipationAt the beginning of each course, students will verify enrollment by completing amandatory course check-in placed inside the Course Information section of the LearningManagement System. Students will not be able to view course content or participate incourse assignments until they have completed the verification. Students who fail tocomplete the verification will be purged from the course for lack of participation after thefirst week. Student financial aid awarding and disbursements will be triggered bysuccessful enrollment verification in each 8-week session. All DAL students, regardlessof course modality, will need to complete the online check-in process.Further participation for each student is monitored by the faculty member of thecourse. Students who are not participating in discussion forums and regular courseassignments should receive timely contact by the faculty member with encouragement toparticipate. Notifications on students who fail to respond or participate appropriatelyshould be sent to the <strong>Faculty</strong> Services Office as soon as possible. This information willbe passed on by <strong>Faculty</strong> Services to the students’ individual advisors who will alsoattempt to reach out to the students.Excused absences due to extenuating circumstances (e.g., extended sickness, deathin immediate family) are left to the discretion of the course professor. Students shouldpresent any and all documentation for absences as requested by the course professor inorder to receive consideration for extenuating circumstances.The DAL uses Continuing Advisors assigned on an annual basis. The advising teamis primarily comprised of DAL part-time faculty who are committed to assisting students intheir progress toward academic success. Advisors are assigned to students in degreeprograms according to their academic specialties. Face-to-face and web-assistedmeetings are regularly held for purposes of improving communication with students.These meetings also provide an opportunity to evaluate advisor successes and problemareas as well as vision and team building.Academic IntegrityAs a Christian community of scholarship, <strong>Lee</strong> <strong>University</strong> is committed to the principlesof truth and honesty in the academic endeavor. As faculty and students in this Christiancommunity, we are called to present our academic work as an honest reflection of ourabilities; we do not need to defraud members of the community by presenting others’work as our own. Therefore, academic dishonesty is handled with serious consequencesfor two fundamental reasons: it is stealing – taking something that is not ours; it is alsolying – pretending to be something it is not. In a Christian community, such pretense isnot only unnecessary, it is also harmful to the individual and community as a whole.Cheating should have no place at a campus where Christ is King because God desiresus to be truthful with each other concerning our academic abilities. Only with a truthfulpresentation of our knowledge can there be an honest evaluation of our abilities. To suchintegrity, we as a Christian academic community are called.Students will not knowingly perform or assist others in performing acts of academicdishonesty. The following acts are those which we consider to be dishonest:1. PlagiarismPlagiarism is presenting as your own work the words, ideas, opinions, theories, orthoughts which are not common knowledge.
