_________________LEE UNIVERSITY FACULTY HANDBOOK & CONSTITUTION_________________FACULTY CONSTITUTION AND BYLAWSPreambleHaving been nominated by the President and appointed by the Board of Directorsfor the conduct of instruction, research, and all other facets of the academic program, themembers of the <strong>Faculty</strong> of <strong>Lee</strong> <strong>University</strong> establish this <strong>Constitution</strong> and Bylaws for thebetter discharge of their responsibilities, as they are indicated by the Charter of the<strong>University</strong>, delegated by the Board of Directors through the President.ARTICLE I. MEMBERS OF THE FACULTYSection 1. Voting MembersThe President of the university and full-time personnel who hold academic rank oflecturer or above shall constitute the voting members of the faculty.Section 2. Associate MembersNon-ranked members of the Cabinet, Administrative Staff and adjunct faculty shallconstitute the associate members. Associate members attend faculty meetings, but theprivilege of speaking on issues extends only to voting members except by invitation of thepresiding officer.Section 3. Emeritus MembersThe emeritus members of the faculty shall have the privilege of associate members.ARTICLE II. OFFICERS OF THE FACULTYSection 1. Presiding OfficerThe President or the Vice President for Academic Affairs shall preside at all regularmeetings of the <strong>University</strong> <strong>Faculty</strong>. When necessary, a voting member of the faculty shallbe designated by the President as presiding officer pro-tem.Section 2. Secretary of the <strong>Faculty</strong>The Vice President for Academic Affairs shall appoint annually a secretary of the facultywho shall keep a record of the proceedings, promptly distribute the minutes of eachmeeting, and attest to the accuracy of all recorded actions of the faculty. The secretaryshall assume office at the first regular meeting of the faculty in each academic year. Inthe event the secretary is absent, the presiding officer shall appoint an acting secretaryfor the meeting.Section 3. Parliamentarian of the <strong>Faculty</strong>The President shall appoint annually from the voting members of the faculty aParliamentarian who shall advise the presiding officer and members of the faculty as tothe proper conduct of faculty concerns in accordance with this <strong>Constitution</strong>, Bylaws, andother parliamentary rules as may be adopted. (Robert’s Rules of Order Newly Revisedshall be followed). The Parliamentarian shall assume office at the first regular meeting ofthe faculty in each academic year.4 - 1 <strong>Faculty</strong> <strong>Constitution</strong> and Bylaws
