Occasionally,the university has additional events requiring academic regalia. Faculty attendance at allsuch occasions is required.Chapel and ConvocationAlthough faculty members are not required to attend all chapel and convocationservices, it is expected that they will be present in chapel regularly and as much as theirschedules allow. Chapel provides the campus community with an opportunity forcorporate worship which is central to the mission of Lee University, and it is essential thatthe faculty be part of that worship. Faculty attendance to these services makes asignificant statement about the faculty member’s concern for the spiritual life of thecampus and of individual students.During convocation week, evening classes on Monday through Wednesday will meetfrom 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. Required study should be limited and faculty members areasked not to give exams during convocation week.Homecoming, Lee Day, and New Student OrientationLee University sponsors special events for former, prospective and new students.Each department usually has a role to play in these events, and the full participation ofdepartment faculty is essential to the success of these occasions. Department chairs willinform faculty members about their duties at these events and about the department’sexpectations for participation. All advisors must be available for Lee Day.Advising for Early Class Selection during SummerSummer school faculty may be asked to advise during summer periods of early classselection. If not enough summer faculty members are available, other members of thefaculty may be asked to come to campus for these events. Although no one is required toparticipate, willingness to come in during summer will be greatly appreciated.Faculty Absences from ClassWhen a faculty member must be absent from a class, the university requires that priornotification be given the department chair. If an absence results from unexpectedcircumstances which make prior approval impossible, the faculty member should notifythe department chair as soon as possible so that appropriate arrangements can bemade. When possible, the department chair will assist the faculty member in providing fora make–up class or a teacher substitution. Prolonged absences will be handled under theinstitutional sick leave policy. Department chairs should keep a record of facultyabsences to be included as part of the annual personnel report.Faculty Committee AssignmentsAcademic Council establishes academic policies and procedures, makingrecommendations to appropriate councils/committees for implementation. It alsoconsiders special academic requests and concerns of students and universityconstituents.The Athletic Training Education Committee is composed of the Director of the AthleticTraining program and administrative staff trainers.
