_________________LEE UNIVERSITY FACULTY HANDBOOK & CONSTITUTION_________________President. This committee is the governing body for the Service-Learning component ofthe General Education Core, and it oversees the implementation of the various projectsof the Leonard Center, the center for Christian service funded by the Lazarus Foundation.Some of the committee’s specific duties include standardizing opportunities for servicecredit, assisting faculty in designing service learning activities for their classes, approvingnew programs, and approving individual experiences for service-learning. The committeealso awards service grants based on proposals.Strength Vocation Advisors (SVAs) are a group of trained faculty members whovolunteer their time to meet with students to discuss their strengths and their calling. Afteranalyzing a student’s gifts, SVAs counsel with him/her about major and career choices.SVAs work under the auspices of the Center for Calling and Career.Teaching Coaches are appointed by the Vice President for Academic Affairs to servethe faculty by working with individual faculty members on best practices in the classroom.Teacher Education Committee is the policy–making body for the Teacher EducationProgram at <strong>Lee</strong> <strong>University</strong>. The committee usually meets monthly but may meet more orless often according to need. The Teacher Education Committee considersrecommended curricular and program changes from the various departments or schoolsthat offer teacher education programs. The committee also acts on applications for theTeacher Education Program and applications for student teaching. The committee,chaired by the Director of Teacher Education, is composed of representatives from theCollege of Education, one representative from each of the other departments or schools,and representatives from the local school systems.Undergraduate Curriculum Committee includes one elected representative from eachacademic department, the Registrar, the Director of Academic Services, Director ofCurriculum Development of the DAL, and a representative from the Library. It is chairedby the Vice President for Academic Affairs and considers all significant changes in the<strong>University</strong>’s undergraduate curriculum.Web Site Development Committee, chaired by the Vice President for InformationServices, designs and updates the <strong>Lee</strong> <strong>University</strong> Web site.<strong>Faculty</strong> SponsorshipsEach faculty member may request the sponsorship of a club or organization as part ofhis/her faculty workload. Administrative staff may indicate their preferences to the VicePresident for Administration.Spiritual Unity OrganizationsThe spiritual life organizations are dedicated to the development of mature Christiansthrough worship, training, practical experience, and other Christian service, placing theirmain emphasis upon individual involvement in the advancement of the Kingdom of God.Backyard Ministries brings together <strong>Lee</strong> <strong>University</strong> students and neighborhood kids fortutorial and mentoring opportunities.Baptist Collegiate Ministries provides an opportunity for social interaction amongstudents and faculty from Baptist church backgrounds.Big Pal/Little Pal presents the love and redemptive power of Jesus Christ to the childrenof Cleveland.5 - 16 Responsibilities of the <strong>Faculty</strong>
