_________________LEE UNIVERSITY FACULTY HANDBOOK & CONSTITUTION_________________President. This committee is the governing body for the Service-Learning component ofthe General Education Core, and it oversees the implementation of the various projectsof the Leonard Center, the center for Christian service funded by the Lazarus Foundation.Some of the committee’s specific duties include standardizing opportunities for servicecredit, assisting faculty in designing service learning activities for their classes, approvingnew programs, and approving individual experiences for service-learning. The committeealso awards service grants based on proposals.Strength Vocation Advisors (SVAs) are a group of trained faculty members whovolunteer their time to meet with students to discuss their strengths and their calling. Afteranalyzing a student’s gifts, SVAs counsel with him/her about major and career choices.SVAs work under the auspices of the Center for Calling and Career.Teaching Coaches are appointed by the Vice President for Academic Affairs to servethe faculty by working with individual faculty members on best practices in the classroom.Teacher Education Committee is the policy–making body for the Teacher EducationProgram at Lee University. The committee usually meets monthly but may meet more orless often according to need. The Teacher Education Committee considersrecommended curricular and program changes from the various departments or schoolsthat offer teacher education programs. The committee also acts on applications for theTeacher Education Program and applications for student teaching. The committee,chaired by the Director of Teacher Education, is composed of representatives from theCollege of Education, one representative from each of the other departments or schools,and representatives from the local school systems.Undergraduate Curriculum Committee includes one elected representative from eachacademic department, the Registrar, the Director of Academic Services, Director ofCurriculum Development of the DAL, and a representative from the Library. It is chairedby the Vice President for Academic Affairs and considers all significant changes in theUniversity’s undergraduate curriculum.Web Site Development Committee, chaired by the Vice President for InformationServices, designs and updates the Lee University Web site.Faculty SponsorshipsEach faculty member may request the sponsorship of a club or organization as part ofhis/her faculty workload. Administrative staff may indicate their preferences to the VicePresident for Administration.Spiritual Unity OrganizationsThe spiritual life organizations are dedicated to the development of mature Christiansthrough worship, training, practical experience, and other Christian service, placing theirmain emphasis upon individual involvement in the advancement of the Kingdom of God.Backyard Ministries brings together Lee University students and neighborhood kids fortutorial and mentoring opportunities.Baptist Collegiate Ministries provides an opportunity for social interaction amongstudents and faculty from Baptist church backgrounds.Big Pal/Little Pal presents the love and redemptive power of Jesus Christ to the childrenof Cleveland.5 - 16 Responsibilities of the Faculty
_________________LEE UNIVERSITY FACULTY HANDBOOK & CONSTITUTION_________________Deaf Ministry Outreach (Outreaching Hands) is an organization whose purpose is tobring an awareness of the deaf and their culture to the Lee University campus and to theChurch of God; to educate students, faculty, and churches about deafness and the needfor deaf ministry; administer training in American Sign Language and Pidgin SignedEnglish to enable better communication when working with the deaf; to organize andconduct educational workshops that would aid the deaf community and provide teachingand training for hearing workers to the deaf; to provide effective ministries and services tothe deaf in the community; to provide churches with trained workers in deaf ministrythrough a summer and career placement program; and to assist other religious andservice organizations to the deaf as needed.Fellowship of Christian Athletes is an opportunity for student athletes of all sports toshare by their ministry and fellowship as they study God’s Word.Generation Acts seeks to equip students and young adults in their Christian walk, growtogether in all facets of life and be a blessing to others. The focal points of thisorganization are fellowship, discipleship and outreach.Life 423 is a female spiritual life club. Members provide an after school program once aweek for Cleveland Middle School female students which includes various activities andministry.Missions Alive is organized to promote Christian missions throughout the world, tosponsor an interest in and current knowledge of the progress in world missions, and topray for missions and missionaries.Pioneers for Christ seeks to stimulate Christian services by encouraging personalevangelism and providing opportunities for the Christian collegian to improve his/herpersonal witnessing abilities.Street Reach Children’s Program is an outreach to children in the local communityworking with the Boys and Girls Clubs in the area. The purpose is to help these childrenrealize their potential and to fulfill the destiny God has placed in their lives.Academic ClubsThe academic or professional organizations at Lee University are to provide activitiesand associations that will create interest and increase appreciation in students’ chosenprofessions. The organizations also seek to offer opportunities for useful training andprofessional growth.Accounting Club is open to students who are accounting majors and are in goodstanding with the university. This organization gives students an opportunity to gain abetter understanding of the problems in the business world, to interact with externalprofessional societies, and to provide service to the community while preparing to carryout responsibilities as future business leaders and professionals.Advertising Federation is the Lee chapter of the American Advertising Federation. Itspurpose is to provide and promote a better understanding of the functions of advertisingand its values; to stimulate and encourage advertising professionalism; and to apply theskills, creativity and energy of advertising to help solve social problems.5 - 17 Responsibilities of the Faculty
