Councils of the <strong>University</strong>Academic CouncilThe Academic Council is chaired by the Vice President for Academic Affairs and iscomprised of the Director of Student Records and Registrar, school deans, thedepartment chairpersons, the Director of Academic Services, Director of Library Services,the Executive Director of the Division of Adult Learning, an elected faculty representative,and a member of the <strong>Faculty</strong> Council designated by the <strong>Faculty</strong> Council. The AcademicCouncil establishes academic policies and procedures, making recommendations toappropriate councils and committees for implementation. The Council also considersspecial requests and concerns of students and university community constituentsregarding academic matters. The Academic Council meets monthly, as needed.<strong>University</strong> Undergraduate Curriculum CommitteeEach department faculty (including the library) will elect a representative to serve on theUndergraduate Curriculum Committee chaired by the Vice President for AcademicAffairs. The committee will also include the Director of Academic Services and theRegistrar. The Registrar will be a non-voting participant of the <strong>University</strong> UndergraduateCurriculum Committee. The duties of the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee are toreview and approve all changes in department curricula, including addition and deletionof courses; significant revisions in course syllabi; all changes in the catalog copy for anyprogram of studies; and changes in requirements for any major, minor, or professionalsequence in any program of studies controlled by the school’s faculty.Deans CouncilThe Deans Council is chaired by the Vice President for Academic Affairs and iscomprised of the deans of the colleges and schools of the university, the Director of theDivision of Adult Learning and the Director of Library Services. The Deans Councilrecommends academic policies and procedures to the Academic Council who mayapprove, reject, or refer policies or procedures back to the Deans Council for clarificationor modification. New majors, new minors, changes in the General Education Core andother new programs are to be sent to the Deans Council for assessment of their possibleimpact on institutional resources.Approved proposals will be sent to the appropriate governing body; unapprovedproposals will be returned to the originating group. Undergraduate curricular proposalswill be sent to the <strong>University</strong> Undergraduate Curriculum Committee and graduateproposals to the Graduate Council.Graduate CouncilThe Graduate Council serves as the administrative advisory group for all graduateprograms and review board for all academic policies and regulations for graduateprograms; reviews and approves the university-wide guidelines regarding graduatematters (forwarding to other appropriate bodies for decision); and reviews and approvescurricular changes recommended by departments and schools relative to graduatecurricula.Composition: Vice President for Academic Affairs; all graduate program directors; deans;two faculty representatives elected at large from the graduate faculty; Graduate4 - 3 <strong>Faculty</strong> <strong>Constitution</strong> and Bylaws
