_________________LEE UNIVERSITY FACULTY HANDBOOK & CONSTITUTION_________________Committee is composed of three faculty members, each from a different department; andthree students, each from a different department. No two members of this committeeshall be from the same academic department.Nominations may be submitted in letter form to the President by faculty members andstudents. Deadline for nominations shall be March 15. Candidates are not limited to thosenominated by students and faculty; therefore, any member of the Selection Committeemay nominate a candidate. The committee shall consider each candidate on the basis ofthe established criteria and, by means of secret balloting, select the recipient of theaward by majority vote (4 of 7). The selection is submitted to the President by theSelection Committee Chairperson by April 15. This award carries with it recognition atcommencement and a stipend.The criteria for selection are as follows:SCALE I: Demonstration of Ability for Effective Teaching (1–10 rating)A. Analytic/Synthetic Approach1. Discusses points of view other than his/her own.2. Emphasizes conceptual understanding.3. Seems well read beyond the subject he/she teaches.B. Organization/Clarity1. Is well prepared.2. Presents well organized lectures, discussions, and demonstrations.C. Instruction–Group Interaction1. Encourages class discussion and sharing experience.2. Knows when students are bored or confused; is aware of student reactionto his/her lecture.3. Has students apply concepts to demonstrate understanding.4. Allows enough flexibility in assignments, testing, and requirements toprovide for individual differences and to encourage creative and originalthinking.D. Dynamism/Enthusiasm1. Is enthusiastic about his/her subject.2. Varies the speed and tone of his/her voice.3. Has a sense of humor.4. Expresses interest and concern about the quality of his/her teaching.SCALE II: Relations with Students (1–7 rating)A. Has a genuine interest in students.B. Is friendly towards students.C. Relates to students as individuals.D. Recognizes and greets students out of class.E. Is accessible to students out of class.F. Is valued for advice not directly related to the course.G.
