_________________LEE UNIVERSITY FACULTY HANDBOOK & CONSTITUTION_________________The Associate Dean will teach eighteen (18) hours in the School of Religion per yearand provide representation for the School of Religion at official functions when the Deanis not available or when requested. In addition, he/she will:1. Mentor (‘elder’) SOR faculty and students on their spiritual well-being.2. Mentor the Poiema Scholars in the SOR.3. Plan and execute the Fall Poiema Retreat.4. Attend meetings of both departments in the SOR (the Department of ChristianMinistries and the Department of Theology.5. Mentor the part-time faculty of the Religion Core.6. Assist with the Chair of the Department of Theology and the Dean of the SOR incoordinating and scheduling the Religion Core.7. Meet with the Dean as requested.8. Supervise the Associate Dean budget especially in relation to the PoiemaScholarship Budget.9. Chair the Poiema Scholarship Committee (which chooses the 20 scholars eachspring to receive the Poiema Scholarship).Academic Department Chairpersons1. Maintain a twelve–hour teaching load per year.2. Maintain comprehensive records of academic standing and progress of studentsmajoring within the department.3. Assist the Dean in the evaluation of transcripts of transfer students and majors.4. Assist in the supervision of instruction and research programs of the department.5. Assist in the preparation and/or assignment of the following:a. Instructional budgetb. <strong>Faculty</strong> loads and class schedulesc. Catalog revisionsd. Extracurricular work within the departmente. Textbook purchasesf. Course offerings/class limitsg. Class assignments6. Assist in the recruitment and orientation of new faculty.7. Moderate department faculty meetings.8. Evaluate the performance of faculty members in the department and assist in theirprofessional development.9. Advise student groups both on and off campus which represent the department.10. Supervise and coordinate other teaching and/or administrative functions unique tothe demands of the instructional program of a given department.11. Recommend to the Office of Academic Services the assignment of advisees toadvisors.12. Evaluate degree audits and recommend students for graduation.Director of Graduate Programs in Bible and TheologyThe Director of Graduate Programs in Bible and Theology is directly responsible tothe Department Chair of Theology and the Dean of the School of Religion. The Director’sprimary responsibilities are to:1. Assist the Dean in recruiting and hiring faculty to teach the graduate curriculum.2. Recommend professional development opportunities for faculty teaching graduatecourses.3. Supervise evaluation of faculty teaching graduate courses.4. Develop and revise graduate curriculum.3 - 32 Organization
