MAY 2009SOLICITATION FOR OFFERS OUTPATIENT CLINIC <strong>SFO</strong> NO. VA-101-XX-RP-XXXX[INSERT LOCATION OF FACILITY]6.2.4 LOADING DOCKSLoading dock platforms shall be 4 feet [1.22 m] above the driveway. Platforms shall have aminimum depth <strong>of</strong> 8 feet [2.44 m] front to back or between dock lift/leveler and back wall.Provide a canopy over the platform with 14 feet [4.27 m] <strong>of</strong> clearance from grade to theunderside <strong>of</strong> the canopy. Provide a stair or a ramp to the platform.Provide dock levelers where shown on conceptual plans. Dock levelers shall be //manual////hydraulic// with 25,000 pound [11,340 kg] capacity for recessed installation at loading dock.6.2.5 //CANOPIES OR COVERED WALKS////Provide canopies or covered walkways from the outpatient clinic building to locations asshown in the conceptual plans. If canopies or covered walks extend over truck or bus trafficareas, provide 14 feet minimum vertical clearance for vehicular traffic.//6.2.6 ENCLOSURE SYSTEMSBuilding envelope systems shall be designed with consideration for performance under localclimactic conditions, appearance, durability, security, efficiency in construction, andmaintenance and operating costs. Comply with the requirements <strong>of</strong> this <strong>SFO</strong> for SustainableDesign and Energy Efficiency, Paragraph 4.8.Design for heat loss or gain in accordance with energy criteria in this solicitation. Providevapor barriers at appropriate side <strong>of</strong> construction based on local climatic conditions.Fire resistance <strong>of</strong> building envelope systems shall be as required by applicable codes forconstruction type and exposure.A. Exterior WallsMaterials and colors shall be consistent with the overall design concept and structuralrequirements, and provide the level <strong>of</strong> physical security required by this solicitation. Wallsshall be designed to prevent moisture penetration. Detail and construct moisture barriers, wallcavities and weeps, flashings, and other features as necessary to prevent damage to wallcomponents or entry <strong>of</strong> moisture into building. Masonry parapet walls are potential sources <strong>of</strong>water penetration, unequal thermal expansion, additional structural loads, and increasedcosts. Proposed parapet walls must be justified by aesthetic, functional, or economicconsiderations.Structural design <strong>of</strong> walls shall comply with Paragraph 6.1. The weight <strong>of</strong> masonry curtainwalls or veneer shall be supported by the structural frame at each floor.Design walls for sound transmission control from external sources at sites near airports,freeways, //[___]// or heavy city traffic.B.
