MAY 2009SOLICITATION FOR OFFERS OUTPATIENT CLINIC <strong>SFO</strong> NO. VA-101-XX-RP-XXXX[INSERT LOCATION OF FACILITY](5) Energy Conservation FeaturesProvide capability <strong>of</strong> reducing the supply and exhaust air volume by 50% while still maintainingthe positive air balance. Provide a variable speed drive for the supply and exhaust air fans tooperate at the reduced air volume and compensate for the variation in the static pressure dueto filter loading.6.5 FIRE PROTECTION6.5.1 FIRE EXTINGUISHERSPortable fire extinguishers recessed in cabinets shall be provided, inspected, and maintainedby the Lessor in accordance with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 10, Standard forPortable Fire Extinguishers.Recessed cabinets shall be provided in occupied areas. Size fire extinguisher cabinets toaccommodate a 2.5 gallon [9.5 liters] pressurized water extinguisher. Recessed cabinets shallbe conspicuously marked.//Locate additional fire extinguisher cabinets in the surgical suite and in elevator machinerooms.//6.5.2 FIXED FIRE EXTINGUISHING SYSTEMSProvide fixed fire extinguishing systems in accordance with NFPA 96 for cooking operationsproducing grease laden vapors or smoke.Fixed fire extinguishing systems shall be wet chemical and shall comply with UL300 inaccordance with NFPA 17A. Activation <strong>of</strong> the fixed fire extinguishing system shall shut downthe power/fuel source to the cooking equipment and shall be connected to the fire alarmsystem.6.5.3 AUTOMATIC SPRINKLER //AND STANDPIPE// SYSTEMSAutomatic sprinkler systems shall be installed in the outpatient clinic building and anyaccessory buildings. Installation shall comply with NFPA 13. Sprinklers shall be installedthroughout the building(s), including elevator machine rooms, walk-in freezers and cold rooms,telecommunications rooms, radiology and MRI suites, loading docks, electrical rooms andclosets, audiometric booths, vaults, and generator rooms.Provide a standpipe system as required by locally adopted codes and standards, NFPA 45,NFPA 1, or NFPA 101.A. DesignThe design shall comply with the requirements <strong>of</strong> NFPA 13// and NFPA 14//. The automaticsprinkler system shall be hydraulically designed by any design approach allowed by NFPA 13.A minimum safety factor <strong>of</strong> 10% shall be provided in the hydraulic calculations. Pipe schedulesystems may be used for extension <strong>of</strong> existing pipe schedule systems where water supply isadequate.
