GeneralProvide shielding against radiation from x-ray equipment. When required by State or Localjurisdictions, obtain the services <strong>of</strong> a physicist approved by the American Board <strong>of</strong> Radiologyin accordance with the appropriate standards and regulations <strong>of</strong> the National Council onRadiation Protection and Measurements (obtainable from NCRP Publications; 7910Woodmont Avenue, Suite 400; Bethesda, MD; 20814) to design and specify the level <strong>of</strong>radiation protection required.State the prescribed shielding in terms <strong>of</strong> millimeters <strong>of</strong> lead or in inches <strong>of</strong> wall, ceiling, floor,and door construction <strong>of</strong> equivalent protection thickness. Post a certificate, stating the leadequivalent protection <strong>of</strong> each surface, in all rooms with radiation shielding.B. Lead Lined Doors and FramesLead lining <strong>of</strong> frames, doors and other items occurring in partitions shall provide an x-rayabsorption equivalent to that <strong>of</strong> partitions in which they occur.(1) Lead Lined Wood DoorsUse flush veneered construction.Face veneers shall be same species and grade as used for other wood doors in theproject.Construct doors <strong>of</strong> two separate solid wood cores with a single sheet <strong>of</strong> lead liningthrough center.Extend sheet lead lining to all door edges, providing x-ray absorption equal to partitionin which door occurs.Fasten wood cores together with either countersunk steel bolts through lead with boltheads and nuts covered with poured lead, or with poured lead dowels.Finish face <strong>of</strong> dowels and lead covering <strong>of</strong> bolt heads and nuts flush with wood cores.Edge strips: Use same species <strong>of</strong> wood as face veneer.Minimum thickness shall be 1-1/2 inches at top edge and 2-1/2 inches at bottom edge.Extend vertical edge strips full height <strong>of</strong> door and bevel 1/8-inch for each two inches <strong>of</strong>door thickness.Part I: Basic Solicitation Requirements – Page 155 <strong>of</strong> 196Lessor __________ Gov’t. ____________________ <strong>of</strong> __________ Pages
