290and everyone is doing a business of some sort. Business is booming asChinese business people with different dialects are making deals withlocal businessmen. Foreign trade of different scales is likewise on the rise.Trade connections with counties in Middle Eastern countries are especiallyactive because of historical trade traditions and linkages. The question iswhether, in the long run, this will be replicated in other parts of migrantsendingcommunities in Fujian Province. We argue that conditions are veryfavorable for this to happen at least in Eastern Fujian Province, the locationof our current study, because of the large amount of remittances and overalleconomic climate in China as a whole.
