135Israel was then only a drop in the vast Jewish sea of Eastern Europe. What, however, could this drop bring? It could not bring a different, new identitysince it did not want this - because by relinquishing a Jewish state in EastAfrica, is also automatically relinquished a Jewish state in the Land ofIsrael. The logic of the matter itself, and the logic hidden in the desire ofthe “Zionists of Zion”, fixed the Jewish settlement in the Land of Israel as aplace of diaspora; a diaspora alongside the other diasporas and beside theother diasporas, where a drop that is part of the sea belongs to the sea.Because of this, the Zionists introduced their own specific variety, that is tosay that the Hebrew settlement in the Land of Israel was not just a typicaldiaspora.
