170Letter Nr. 48Paris, April, 1830Your friendly warning concerning the consequences of delays inkeeping the Board of the Polytechnic Institute informed about my activities,delivered to me by way of colleague Barciński can be received by me onlywith genuine feelings of gratitude for the kindness shown to me again on thisoccasion by you, my honorable benefactors.However, I hope that by writing this letter, my honorable benefactor'sgracious concern about the consequences of my lengthy silence will have beenallayed, and that I will no longer need to worry about receiving a veryunpleasant and unfavorable admonition, which the Board of PolytechnicInstitute 161 was about to send to me because they were displeased with myconduct. 162 For only a few days ago I sent two letters in care of Mr.Krzyżanowski. I judge that by now both these letters should have arrived inWarsaw. The first letter includes a report on my present situation, as well as ashort essay on a topic dealing with commercial law. 163The letter addressed to my honorable benefactor, includes a list ofbooks remaining in Paris that are the property of the Polytechnic InstituteLibrary, the receipt for my tuition during the last quarter at the local School ofCommerce, 2 receipts of colleague Zubelewicz's relative funds left over fromthe enrollment fees entrusted to him by myself and colleague Barciński, a letter161 Lanckoroński, the Secretary of the Board of the Polytechnic Institute. It has been mentionedthat B. Jański, by reason of poverty, did not register for one quarterin the School of Trade and Commerce in Paris; and since he had no receipt to send, he neglectedthe required correspondence with Board of the Polytechnic Institute, and even with his adviser,Krzyżanowski.162 He feared that what he had done was already known in Warsaw.163 The letters mentioned included the required reports, plus an extensive essay "On Constraint ofthe Individual in Matters of Trade".
