Duński]Solesmes, December 7, 1837Praesed be Jesus Chris!My dearest Edward!I received your letter of two weeks ago, dated November 22 nd , on Friday,the 24 th , with the letters from Rome enclosed. May God reward you for yourspeedy response, as well as for all the manifestations of your brotherly love.I left La Trappe on the next day, but arrived here only a few days ago,since I stopped along the way to visit with various groups of our compatriots, firstat Mortagne, then at Lemans; but I will tell you more about this on my return. AtLemans, a segment of the Democratic Society insisted that I stay for their 29material spiritual celebrations unfortunately, these latter, the spiritual, are fromtheir own standpoint and after their own mind.N.B. In this section there are two brothers, Ignatius and MacarxusFontana 671 , whom you will probably remember from former times at Pułtusk. Allof these people are like they were unbaptized: without worship and without faith;but, their hearts are good and you can tell that God once lived in them. And,please God, Christ the Lord is preparing a dwelling place for himself in them.There is hope.Since I will soon be returning to you maybe even next week; surely in thefollowing week, I am writing this short letter simply to tell you that I am here, incase you had some important communication for me, or letters arrived fromPoland, especially from Cracow, and for one other reason.(But I must first tell you that the 150 francs you gave me before mydeparture from Paris, after making necessary payments, were sufficient only for671 Ignatius Fontana (+1874) – a second – lieutenant in the grenadiers during the Novemberuprising, decorated with the cross Virtuti Militari; and Macarius Fontana, standard-bearer of the 7 thregiment of infantry on the line. Both were emigrants.
