513My last letter from Peter and Jerome was mailed from Florence on the 6 thof October. Undoubtedly, another has arrived Rome after my departure. The tripwas very successful.Hube has not yet returned the 150 francs he owes John, because he has notyet received a response from the Ministry to his petition for a settlement of a fewhundred francs upon renouncing his salary.I have visited Prince Czartoryski several times and have been receivedvery well each time. He gave his firm promise to use his influence to bringMikulski, Marszewski and Królikowski to us 597 .I finally tore myself away from Paris 12 days ago, the 29 th of last month.(The next day I arrived here, where I am at present) x . Upon arrival, I was in nocondition to catch up on overdue letters as I had planned beforehand and, first ofall, to you, M. Caesar. I put myself entirely in God’s hands and, after a long andserious preparation, I have already begun my general confession 598 . I finally founda confessor and spiritual director whom I love more than life, about whom I amvery effusive. He is for me all that Father Lacroix was for you, M. Caesar, if notmore.
