629John Nepomucene Omieciński - I sent him to Versailles at the beginningof January to live with Boleslaus Wielogłowski and Reces Wątróbka. In March hereturned to Paris. However, his uncle, General Dłuski, who lives in Frankfurt onthe Oder, invited him to come there, and he began to make efforts to obtainpermission to stay with his uncle. He did not do this without my knowledge, andthere are serious reasons why he should do so (do not mention this in your lettersto others). Obviously then many considerations required that he stop living withus. The reason I mentioned was not made public; but between him and me it wasthe one decisive reason for our separation. Indeed, from what I have heard abouthim, especially from our dear Valerian, he is presently experiencing some kind ofgreat political reaction. If this is so, it would not be for me something entirely newor unexpected. Even while he was still living with us, he was constantly botheringme to to join the party on which, as he thought already then, all of our nationalhopes hinged. Even before he came to us he had written long treatises andmemorials in this same spirit and with the same purpose, and later he gave them tome to read. Recent more frequent conversations with Czajkowski might havebrought him to a definite decision. But I am not at all sure about the extent towhich he may have changed; for, till the very last moments before my departure,his relations with me were what they had been. And so, in spite of Valerian’sreports, at that time I thought it better not to initiate with him any discussion aboutsome supposed declaration he had made against us in secondary amtters. As aresult, the matter has not been clarified between us; and I cannot tell you anythingdefinite about him, except that I have high hopes that our dear John, howevermuch he has changed or will change in temporal matters, will not abandon God orefforts to achieve a more perfect Christian life.As for Francis Krahnas, the matter is in abeyance. He is living in Poitierstemporarily (since April) with his French friend (Bastard), who is in the process ofconversion.Leonard Rettel things have not changed.
