end up buying big bux parts or haunting a junkyard <strong>for</strong> parts. If the shafts/screws won't turn<br />

easily, about all I can suggest is removing the entire headlight assembly and freeing it up by<br />

hand at the screw. It might entail disassembly and chasing/lubrication of the adjustment screw.<br />

Aiming:<br />

headlights at least once a year to ensure maximum per<strong>for</strong>mance and to make sure that they are<br />

not blinding other drivers. If you don't have easy access to a shop with the proper equipment,<br />

you can adjust the headlights yourself, following the steps below. You'll need an assistant, 25<br />

foot tape measure, masking tape and a large black felt tip marker and a flat blade screwdriver if<br />

your <strong>Volvo</strong> does not have adjusting knobs.<br />

Most <strong>Volvo</strong>s 1960 to 1985 have adjusting screws which are accessed by removing the headlight<br />

trim. Most 1986 and newer models have adjustment knobs that are accessed from the back side<br />

of the headlight in the engine compartment. Be<strong>for</strong>e you begin, make sure that your car has dose<br />

to a full tank of gas, that the tires are properly inflated and that there is nothing heavy in the<br />

trunk or cargo area that Is not normally carried in the car. This will provide the best accuracy<br />

under normal conditions.<br />

1. Find a nice flat parking area with a smooth fight colored wall, preferably a place where<br />

you won't be disturbed or have to move your car during the procedure. Some ambient<br />

lighting helps; just make sure that you can dearly see your low beams shining on the wall<br />

(often your driveway and garage door will work well). Park your car perpendicular to the
