For the analysis of a simply supported flight of stairs, consider a simple flight of two runs,<br />

ABC, subjected to a concentrated load P at B ′ (Fig. 18.14b). Because joints B and B ′ are rigid,<br />

the moment at joint B is equal to the moment at B ′ ,or<br />

M B = M ′ B = 1 2 PS<br />

where S is the width of the run. The moment in rise, BB ′ , is constant and is equal to PS/2.
