SECTION 24. AGRICULTURE<br />

The import entiy documents collected by<br />

Customs are processed each month to<br />

obtain data on the movement of<br />

merchandise Imported into the <strong>United</strong><br />

<strong>States</strong>. Data obtained include value,<br />

quantity, and shipping weight by<br />

commodity, by country of origin, by<br />

Customs district of entry, and by mode of<br />

transportation.<br />

Import entry documents are required to<br />

be filed for the importation of goods into<br />

the <strong>United</strong> <strong>States</strong>. Customs officials<br />

collect and transmit statistical copies of<br />

the documents to the Bureau of the<br />

Census on a flow basis for data<br />

compilation. A 1 % sample of entries Is<br />

processed for shipments valued $250 or<br />

less, which account for less than 1 % of<br />

Probability sample of 161,000<br />

establishments, which comprised all<br />

medium and large size employers in the<br />

universe and a probability sample of<br />

small employers. Also, all 600,000<br />

establishments without paid employees<br />

are included in the coverage through<br />

administrative records.
