AAN303 – Anatomy/Physiology III<br />
Units: 4<br />
This course presents the anatomy <strong>and</strong> physiology of the digestive, urinary <strong>and</strong> reproductive systems, acidbase<br />
fluid <strong>and</strong> electrolyte balance, as well as genetics. Instruction includes lectures, laboratory sessions in<br />
cadaver dissection <strong>and</strong> small group discussion.<br />

ABN204 – Western Nutrition<br />
Units: 3<br />
This is a basic nutrition course that deals with the following aspects of nutrients: food sources of each<br />
nutrients, digestion <strong>and</strong> absorption of the food, storage in the body, function <strong>and</strong> daily requirements of each<br />
nutrients, interaction of the nutrients, the signs <strong>and</strong> symptoms of deficiency or toxicity of each nutrients,<br />
methods of nutritional assessment, dietary guidelines <strong>and</strong> nutritional labeling, nutritional principles <strong>for</strong><br />
managing obesity <strong>and</strong> nutritional guidelines during pregnancy <strong>and</strong> lactation.<br />

ACL304 – Introduction to Clinical Internship<br />
Units: 1<br />
This course is the beginning phase of the CEM internship training <strong>and</strong> is designed to provide students with<br />
clinical observation of licensed practitioners along with the foundational knowledge <strong>for</strong> professional, ethical,<br />
<strong>and</strong> safe clinical practice. Students will acquire the knowledge, skills, <strong>and</strong> attitudes necessary <strong>for</strong> success as an<br />
intern in the University Health Center <strong>and</strong> beyond. Of key importance is orienting students to the structure of<br />
the CEM Internship experience <strong>and</strong> with the varied <strong>and</strong> progressive levels of responsibility they will be<br />
expected to take on at each level of internship. Proper paperwork, appropriate clinical attire <strong>and</strong> etiquette,<br />
history taking skills, physical exam <strong>and</strong> various treatment modalities will be observed <strong>and</strong> demonstrated by<br />
students. This course also utilizes asynchronous online assignments to promote student learning <strong>and</strong> prepare<br />
students <strong>for</strong> more advanced clinical internship activity.<br />

ACL403 – Clinical Observation<br />
Units: 4<br />
This course is the observation phase of internship training <strong>and</strong> is designed to develop the knowledge <strong>and</strong><br />
attitudes necessary <strong>for</strong> clinic practice. OB interns will actively participate in patient care under the supervision<br />
of a licensed acupuncturist but not actually per<strong>for</strong>ming any h<strong>and</strong>s-on treatment. OB interns may also engage<br />
in various other educational experiences, including case presentations, workshops, clinic rounds, guest<br />
lectures, <strong>and</strong> clinic promotional activities.<br />
