CBS0107 – Medical Terminology<br />

This course is a survey course that covers the basic elements of medical terminology. Students will learn the<br />
western medical terminology <strong>for</strong> various systems in the human body, including the musculoskeletal, nervous,<br />
respiratory, digestive, cardiovascular, urinary, immune <strong>and</strong> reproductive systems. It also includes Western<br />
medical abbreviations <strong>and</strong> the <strong>for</strong>mation of singular/plurals <strong>for</strong>ms.<br />

CBS0108 – Introduction to Ethics <strong>and</strong> Professional Behavior<br />
Units: 1<br />
This course introduces the student to the fundamental concepts of ethics in a health care education<br />
environment. The purpose of the course is to increase the awareness of ethics as a student in a health care<br />
profession. It is designed to enable the student professional-in-training to develop a personal baseline <strong>for</strong> the<br />
skills necessary <strong>for</strong> the successful interpersonal patient/colleague relations. It is also intended to assist the<br />
student in resolving ethical dilemmas by applying problem solving techniques.<br />

CBS0201 – History Taking<br />
Units: 2<br />
This course introduces the student to the components of the initial patient interview with emphasis on<br />
effective verbal <strong>and</strong> written communication, development of appropriate interpersonal skills <strong>and</strong> establishing<br />
the doctor-patient relationship.<br />

CDX0601 – Clinical Laboratory Diagnosis<br />

This course is designed to develop a basic underst<strong>and</strong>ing of clinical laboratory procedures <strong>and</strong> normal <strong>and</strong><br />
abnormal values.<br />

CDX0707 – Emergency Procedures<br />
Units: 2<br />
This course prepares the student <strong>for</strong> common medical emergencies that may be encountered in the prehospital<br />
setting. It includes practical skills <strong>and</strong> training in the care <strong>and</strong> recognition of cardiac, respiratory, <strong>and</strong><br />
other medical emergencies <strong>and</strong> trauma. It requires competence in basic life support, b<strong>and</strong>aging, splinting, <strong>and</strong><br />
other emergency techniques.<br />
