AHB1510 – Chinese Herbal Prescriptions I<br />

This course teaches the ingredients, preparation, actions, indications, analysis of <strong>for</strong>mula,<br />
cautions/contraindications, counseling, <strong>and</strong> modification of herbal <strong>for</strong>mulas in different categories. This<br />
course covers: Formulas that Release the Exterior, Formulas that Clear Heat, Formulas that Drain Downward,<br />
Formulas that Harmonize <strong>and</strong> Formulas that Warm the Interior. Course instruction includes lectures, case<br />
studies, laboratory practice of herbal <strong>for</strong>mulation, small-group discussions <strong>and</strong> problem-based, small-group,<br />
tutorials, <strong>and</strong> online analysis of case studies with prescription correlation.<br />

Formulas that Regulate the Qi, Formulas that Invigorate the Blood, <strong>and</strong> Formulas that Stop Bleeding. Course<br />
instruction includes lectures, case studies, laboratory practice of herbal <strong>for</strong>mulation, small-group discussions<br />

herbal interactions with commonly prescribed medications <strong>and</strong> interactions that may lead to serious adverse<br />
effects.<br />

Food Stagnation <strong>and</strong> Formulas that Expel Parasites. Course instruction includes lectures, case studies,<br />
